Northern Travellers 2024 Final

Final Results for the 2024 Northern Travellers

The Northern Traveller event has very much returned to it's roots this year with the event winner coming from the host club of the last event.  This small club nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park, just above Greenfield and Oldham has a reputation for putting on a great Flying Fifteen Open and 2024 didn't disappoint.  Your correspondent has on many occasions had the pleasure of enjoying the sailing and the social, at this great club and this year the racing was as enjoyable as ever.

Traditionally, towards the end of the year, Dovestone chose a June date, which coincided with the final of the Northern Traveller series.  With all to play for amongst many of the crews, the leading boats in the series all attend.
As you can see the racing was close and competitive but the local crew of Graham and Chris Massey prevailed to go one better than their excellent result at Windermere to take the series win for 2024 from last year's winners Mike and Sarah Harris.

The Northern traveller series, devised by David McKee, is designed to encourage the club sailor to travel to events.  To qualify for the trophy you must have been outside the top 10 at an Flying Fifteen regional ranking event or outside the top 15 at the nationals.  With a concise series, only three events (this year) to qualify you need only sail in two events.
