Dovestone SC 2021 Open Meeting

Report & Results from this year's event

Dovestone Sailing Club – Flying Fifteen Open - 18/19th September 2021

Emerging from the series of lockdowns in the North West, Dovestone SC held their first Open meeting for 2 years over the weekend of 18/19 th September. The home fleet of 10 boats was joined by visitors from Blackpool and Fleetwood YC and Notts County SC, producing a 13 boat fleet

Both days saw glorious weather, true shorts and tee shirt sailing in these beautiful surroundings. The forecast was for light conditions on Saturday and possibly even less wind on Sunday. This was not
very encouraging however a fitful and light breeze developed on Saturday enabling 3 races to be completed. Wins were recorded for David/Sally McKee, Andrew McKee/Rich Jones and Graham Massey/Lucy Clough. Overnight these boats occupied the first 3 places followed by Rob Mountain/D Gybe in fourth.

The fleet enjoyed the opportunity to socialise in the evening and a fine Lasagne Supper accompanied with a few drinks in preparation for Sunday’s sailing.

Sunday morning the weather was sunny and warm, but the reservoir was glassy smooth. Such was the enthusiasm of the fleet that boats were rigged and after an hour postponement launched into the lightest of breezes. The start was delayed by PRO Mark Rahn waiting for the breeze to build and started in reasonable wind. Unfortunately, the breeze gradually died before many boats completed a lap and the race was sensibly canned by the PRO.

Despite a further wait for wind all hope of racing was abandoned and a paddling race back to the slipway ensued. Whilst it was disappointing that further racing was not possible the sailors were in good spirits having enjoyed messing about in boats in good company and great weather. The overnight results therefore stood, and the event was won by Andrew McKee and Rich Jones.
