Cowes, 15th – 17th July 2017 - Preliminary Information.
Flying Fifteen Southern Area Championship and 70th Anniversary Race is being hosted by the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club and organised by the Solent Fleet Flying Fifteens.
The proposed Southern Area Championship event programme is as follows:-
- Friday 14th July Familiarisation, sign on and practice races (optional)
- Welcome reception and sailors’ supper* at CCYC.
- Saturday 15th July Sign on, 2/3 races p.m. followed by Supper* at an interesting venue.
- Sunday 16th July 2/3 races followed by a prize giving at CCYC
- Evening roast supper* at CCYC.
*a modest cost will apply to each supper.
All racing will be in accordance with BIFFA recommendations and SI’s and sailed from a committee boat start.
The proposed entry fee for the Championship is £75.
Red Funnel has agreed a sponsored return fare package including car, passengers and FF on trailer for £80 from Southampton to Cowes.The fare is available by advance booking for crossings made between 10th July and 26th July. The booking code to use for this fare is FFSAC2017 with a restriction of no travel from Southampton before 08:00 weekdays and with no return between 08:30 and 18:30 on Fridays and between 16:30 and 19:30 on Sundays.
Arrangements can be made for a CCYC RIB to assist those wishing to launch and sail from Calshot or Hamble Yacht Services. These FF’s will be berthed at the CCYC. Some space for launching and storage for trailered FF’s will be available at the CCYC on a first come basis with preference to those wishing to stay for Cowes Classics Week and/or Cowes Week. Remaining FF’s will be dry sailed from adjacent marinas. More details and Notice of Race will be issued soon.
70th Anniversary race
Monday 17th; July A ‘round the cans’ Solent race with a shoreline start/finish. There will be an early evening prize giving at a reception at the Royal London Yacht Club. This race will be run solely for the FF fleet within Cowes Classic Week. An entry fee of £20 per boat will apply for boats not taking part in Classics Week.
Cowes Classics Week 18th-21st July
All FF Fleets (i.e. Open, Classic and Silver) may enter the regatta and compete against each other on handicap. This regatta offers 2/3 races a day from a committee boat start followed by a full evening social programme. Full details from http://www.cowesclassicsweek.org/
Cowes Classics Week offers excellent racing with a mix of course types to suit daily conditions and class preferences.
Cowes Week 29th July – 5th August.
Some FF owners might like to take part in Cowes Week. Details can be found here http://www.cowesweek.co.uk. There is a “Super Early Bird Entry”: entries received before midnight on 31st December 2016 will be less than the final agreed entry fee and will be entered into a draw for the chance to win a full rebate of entry fee plus other great prizes.
