New title sponsor for Northern Travellers Series

The new Sponsor for the Northern Travellers Series is Waples Wines. The 2012 Waples Wines Northern Travellers Series, following lessons learned from the earlier years of the Traveller Series, will continue as a four event format with the addition of Bassenthwaite who are currently in a growth phase in place of Bala.

In fact the first event will be at Bassenthwaite followed by Ogston, Burton and Dovestone for the final event and prizegiving.

Two events are needed to qualify for the Series. This means that for sailors from the host clubs, only one other open meeting after their own is necessary to qualify.

The results are taken from each open meeting, however for the Traveller Series, as the event is targeted at regular local sailors and not the “hot shots” from the National fleet, the top 15 ranked boats from the 2010 national qualifying series are to be excluded from the results (but not from the events themselves).

A change from the early years, this year the open meetings will be run as a handicap series based on the classic, Silver and Open Fleet handicaps approved by the class.

For further details of the series contact:

Racing Commences at the Australian Nationals

Racing has begun at the 50th Australian National Championships in Perth. We have three GBR teams competing in the event and other sailors crewing for locals, conditions were as you would expect fantastic. As always we have a reporter close to the action (very close in this case) and you can read more on the reports page.

The committee would like to wish all flying fifteen sailors a Happy New Year

In 2011 it was an extremely busy and important year. Graham Vails and Chris Turner brought the 18th World championship title back to the UK, which was a great achievement, and within BIFFA lots and lots of work has been done behind the scenes pulling together the 2012 schedule, creating better communication, and the setting up of subcommittees at regional level to widen the voice and activities of the BIFFA association to all ff sailors. We have also set up conference calls to bring together our fleet captains’ meetings to a greater audience and it is great news that two of the regions have had a their first conference call just before the Christmas break.

I would like to welcome Jeremy Davy onboard who has been co-opted onto the committee to stand in as Acting-Vice President.

We are planning to extend and develop our activities in 2012 and we are looking forward to a great season. - Sue Bannister
